SCOTTY AND MUSIC

Beauty knows no borders or frontiers. From Iceland to Italy.
Scotty's love for people was love at first sight, quite a different attitude from what we are seeing in this beginning of the century.
He loved the calm silent sea, too; yet he didn't disparage those playful, soapy evening waves.. And then the calm again.
An ocean of silence is what he has left behind.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER SCOTTY VS SIGUR RÓS

After having said good-bye to his same-age partner Chola 5 years ago (see older posts), my dearest golden retriever Scotty lost her 22-month-old great-grand-daughter Clara on February 25 this year. That was a real shock for him and my family and friends. And now, 4 months later, when he looked so fine, a pulmonary edema, whose cause we won't be able to know, took his life in a few hours while he was being sedated to be X-rayed. An annus horribilis this has been. We buried him in the garden next to his family this time last Wednesday. This post is dedicated to him.

Sigur Rós' Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust album contains some songs he enjoyed when he wanted to relax while we were in my home library. The green woodland the video features reminds me perfectly of all the long walks we took every day.

The picture, where you can see him sitting on the library floor was taken 9 days before his death.

CLARENCE CLEMONS - IN MEMORIAM

By Andy Greene
June 18, 2011 2:59 PM ET (Rolling Stone Magazine)

Clarence Clemons, the legendary saxophonist in the E Street Band who played alongside Bruce Springsteen for the past 40 years, died on June 18th from complications from a stroke. He was 69.

Clemons - known affectionately to fan and friends as the Big Man - was the backbone of the E Street Band. He played on countless Springsteen songs, including "Born To Run," "Thunder Road," "Jungleland," "Dancing In The Dark," "Badlands" and "The Promised Land." "He always lifted me up," Springsteen said in 1999. "Way, way, way up. Together we told a story of the possibilities of friendship, a story older than the ones that I was writing and a story I could never have told without him at my side." ... ...

"Clarence lived a wonderful life," Springsteen said. "He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the oppurtunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band."

NIKI & THE DOVE Niki & The Dove - Lifting Off Live by The Solo Artist

For Malin Dahlstöm, lead singer of the Swedish electro duo Niki & The Dove, the buzz they’ve been generating among in-the-know music lovers has been hard to wrap her head around.

“To be honest, we really don’t get it,” she confesses from her home in Gothenburg last week, just days before the band embarked on their first U.K. tour. “We’re just happy we’re making music that people actually want to listen to.”

You can stream or download it, so I thoroughly recommend getting it on in your bedroom, turning the lights off, daubing yourself in glitter and feathers, and getting into the swing of pure unabated euphoria ready for next time Malin and Gustaf fly over.

MANEL VS PULP - 'Gent Normal' - 'Common People'

Many people know by now that the Catalan band MANEL enjoy telling 'long stories' in their songs, mainly about human relationships. That must surely be one of the reasons why they chose to cover this 1995 anthem by the so-called Brit-Pop band PULP. 'Gent Normal', at the popular La Boqueria food market in Barcelona. 'Common People', at the renowned Glastonbury Festival. You will appreciate that Manel's don't try to cover the song in the usual poor way; they re-create it.

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)

Test your IPv6 connection to see if your computer and connection are ready for IPv6.

What is IPv6?

The Internet Protocol (IP) is the language that computers use to communicate with each other on the Internet; it works much like phone numbers, which let us connect one telephone to another.
IPv6 is the new version of the Internet Protocol. The addresses used by the current version of the Internet Protocol, IPv4, are nearly all used. At Google, we believe that IPv6 is essential to the continued health and openness of the Internet – and that by allowing all devices on a network to talk to each other directly, IPv6 will enable innovation and allow the Internet to continue to grow.

World IPv6 Day

Most websites today use only IPv4. But on June 8, 2011 - World IPv6 Day New window icon - major web companies, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, and Bing, will enable IPv6 on their main websites for 24 hours. IPv6 will be enabled in addition to IPv4, so if you don’t have IPv6, don’t worry - you will simply use IPv4 as usual.

IPv6 connectivity issues

Over 99.9% of users do not have any problems going to IPv6-enabled websites. However, in rare cases, users may have IPv6 enabled, but not working properly. This may cause delays and connection problems when visiting Google and other participating websites on June 8.
IPv6 connectivity problems are usually caused by misconfigured or misbehaving home network equipment (e.g., home routers), bugs in operating systems, or issues in ISP networks. In many cases, the problem can only be solved by upgrading or replacing home routers and by upgrading operating systems, or if the ISP fixes it. However, it is possible to work around the problem by using IPv4.
If you experience delays connecting to IPv6-enabled websites, you can work around the problem using one of the following:
  • Use an IPv4-only website, if one is available. For example, you can access Google at ipv4.google.com instead of www.google.com.
  • Upgrade to the latest version of your browser. Older versions of many browsers have known bugs with IPv6, and later versions may incorporate workarounds for IPv6 connectivity-related issues in operating systems, routers, and ISP’s.
  • Install a browser that includes workarounds for IPv6 connectivity problems, such as Google Chrome.
If you are still experiencing connectivity issues, here are some additional suggestions for common operating systems:
Windows 7 / Windows Vista
Try one of the following options:
  • Disable IPv6 tunnel interfaces. Tunnel interfaces are less reliable than native IPv4 or IPv6 connectivity. You can do this by downloading Microsoft Fix it 50412.
  • Configure your computer to use IPv4 instead of IPv6. You can do this by downloading Microsoft Fix it 50410.
For more information, please visit Microsoft Support New window icon
Windows XP
Uninstall the IPv6 protocol by following these steps:
  1. Go to Start
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Click Network and Internet Connections
  4. Open Network Connections
  5. Right-click any local area connection, and then click Properties
  6. Select Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 in the list of installed components, and then click Uninstall
  7. Choose Yes in the Uninstall Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 dialog box
  8. Click Close to save changes to your network connection
Please visit Microsoft XP Professional Product Documentation New window icon for more detailed information.
Mac
Try one of the following options:
  • Upgrade your Operating System to OS X 10.6.5 or later
  • Disable IPv6 by following these steps:
    1. Go to the Apple logo menu
    2. Select System Preferences
    3. Select Network. If the lock is locked, click it to enable changes.
    4. Click Advanced
    5. Go to TCP/IP and set Configure IPv6 to Off
Linux
Try one of the following options:
  • Add the following lines to /etc/gai.conf (Create it if it does not exist):
    scopev4 ::ffff:169.254.0.0/112 2
    scopev4 ::ffff:127.0.0.0/104 2
    scopev4 ::ffff:0.0.0.0/96 14
  • Disable IPv6 by using the following command:
    echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6
Please visit ARIN wiki New window icon for more detailed instructions and information on IPv6.

ARCADE FIRE, AUSTRA, TOM VEK .

A shorter post, but straight to your ears. You can't complain this time.

'Speaking In Tongues': ARCADE FIRE had this song (among others?) well hiden behind 'The Suburbs' LP. Incidentally, it shares its title with a TALKING HEADS album that I  still really appreciate.

AUSTRA cover Joni Mitchel's 'Woodstock'. Good job.

TOM VEK has just released his second album ('Leisure Seizure') in 5 years (his first, 'We Have Sound', was released in 2006).

COLDPLAY - 'Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall'

http://www.elpais.com/articulo/cultura/Ritmo/noche/marcha/militar/elpepucul/20110603elpepucul_9/Tes

In spite of the waterfall of teardrops they sing about, they sound rather happy and uplifting. Summer is getting closer. Let's hope our dearest Brian Eno will do a good job with the rest of the songs in the album. Incidentally, the sound of the promotional video is crystal clear. Play it loud.

ANTÒNIA FONT

New to ANTÒNIA FONT? I hope you like them. And if you get the chance to see them play live, don't miss it. You won't regret it. Their latest disc is called 'Lamparetes', the 7th in their career, started in 1997 and still on, thank goodness.
